💡 ADHD Tip: Pancakes & Planning 🥞

"I don't know what I like better, Christmas or Pancake Sunday!" My eldest famously said that when he was 8. My middle recently asked if we could bring back Pancake Sundays, and we have, with a new twist: Pancakes & Planning!

On Sunday mornings, we make pancakes and, while we're eating, we talk about the day and upcoming week. Sundays are our prep day for the week ahead. We look at our whiteboard calendar and ask each family member:

• Is there anything that you know about that isn't on the family calendar?
• Would you please add it to the calendar now? (iCal & wall cal)
• What's on your plate today?
• Is there anything you need support with today or this week?

This simple routine gives everyone a chance to feel considered, supported, and get their needs met. By coupling it with breakfast, it actually happens! Do you have a weekly check-in routine?

Here are a few ADHD-friendly products we’ve found helpful in our home lately: 

• Dry-Erase Monthly Calendar: This is the calendar in our kitchen that we look at during Pancakes & Planning. It’s great for ADHD brains that like to see things laid out clearly. We color code each person's activities, and now that the kids are old enough, they write their own activities on it.
• Noise-Canceling Headphones: Perfect for parents and kids alike when you need a little quiet to focus or reset. Get over-the-ear (instead of on-ear) so that your ears don't get squished. Bonus: these are a visual cue that someone is focusing.
